About
Common Table is an open community of believers and seekers, invited to gather around a common table, share a meal, and engage in deep and meaningful conversation about things that matter, especially spiritual things. Out of these experiences, an intentional community is born, providing space for healing, exploring our faith journeys, and strengthening our relationships with each other and with God, as we determine how best we can live our lives as followers of Jesus.
This is a safe space to explore, to heal, to hurt, and to live. We value safety in all its dimensions: physical, mental, and spiritual. We promote healthy boundaries, bodily and spiritual autonomy, and accountability.
Safe
We value relationships over rigid dogma and we encourage open, genuine conversation; our differences do not separate us, but serve to make us stronger.
Respectful
All are welcome in this space, where the lives and contributions of women, people of color, disabled people, and LGBTQ people are recognized as inherently good and worthy.

When does Common Table meet?
Common Table’s dinner events are held once each month. Check the website here, or on our Facebook or Instagram profiles, for upcoming dates and RSVP links.
What to Expect
Who can come?
You can come! Common Table is a safe, respectful, and inclusive space for people who:
- have never or rarely attended church
- have little-to-no experience with organized religion
- have lost trust in organized religion
- have experienced pain or trauma in past church experiences
- want a place to explore in a safe and nurturing environment which prioritizes relationships over rigid dogma
- who desire to build community and engage in social interactions across generational, social, and other divides
Who is behind this effort?
Common Table values safety, respect, inclusion, trust, and accountability, as do all of our partners. Supporting partners in this effort include:
- St. Stephen United Methodist Church
- St. John’s Baptist Church
- St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church
Are your events free?
Yes! Monthly events are free. You will never be charged for dinner. Depending on the event, you may need to purchase your own adult beverage, if you desire to have one.
What inspired this new program?
Members and leaders from our partner churches were encouraged to reach out to a wider community of people who may seek a spiritual community, but might not be comfortable in traditional church settings. We were inspired by the dinner church and Gastrochurch movements. One of our leaders previously worked with similar efforts, including Gastrochurch Houston and Gastrochurch Greensboro.
